High hardness:
The surface hardness can reach Mohs hardness level 9.2, second only to diamonds and Mohs quartz, and can effectively resist scratches and wear.
Good toughness:
Adopting advanced sintering technology, the structure is uniform and dense, and the grain boundary bonding force is strong. It can resist external impacts and prevent fracture and breakage, and the product has excellent stability and durability.
Strong wear resistance:
Due to high hardness and dense structure, it shows excellent wear resistance under harsh working conditions such as low-speed high-load, high-speed low-load, and high-speed high-load, and can significantly extend the service life of equipment.
Excellent corrosion resistance:
It has good tolerance to corrosive media such as acids and alkalis, and its performance is stable in acidic and alkaline environments and is not easily corroded.
Good high temperature resistance:
At 600°C, the strength and hardness are almost unchanged; the thermal expansion rate is close to that of metals and can be used in conjunction with metals.
Good biocompatibility:
It is suitable for fields with high requirements for biocompatibility such as medical implants and dental instruments.
Good electrical insulation:
It is an excellent electrical insulation material with good electrical characteristics and can be used in fields such as electronic components, electrical insulation materials and high-temperature cables.
Relatively high density:
The density is about 6.0g/cm³. Compared with silicon nitride ceramic balls (with a density of about 3.2g/cm³), it is heavier and suitable for occasions that require stability and impact resistance.
Smooth surface:
The spherical surface is smooth, the color is bright, the wear is low, and the performance degradation is small after the surface brightness is damaged. It is an outstanding grinding medium.
Grinding field:
  • Paint and ink industry: Generally, zirconia balls with a particle size of 1.6-2.0mm are used, which can effectively grind and disperse pigments and fillers, making the fineness and glossiness of paints and inks achieve better results.
  • Electronic ceramic field: For grinding high-precision electronic ceramic powder, zirconia balls with smaller particle sizes, such as 0.3-0.8mm, are generally selected, which can make the particle size of the ground powder finer and the distribution more uniform, which is beneficial to improving the performance of electronic ceramics.

Mechanical engineering field:
  • Bearing field: Select the appropriate diameter zirconia balls according to the size and load requirements of bearings. Generally, it is between 3 and 10 mm. For bearings with high speed and high load, models of zirconia balls with higher hardness and greater density, such as TZP zirconia balls, can be selected to ensure the wear resistance and stability of bearings 14.
  • Valve field: When zirconia balls are used as valve core or valve seat materials, the appropriate size needs to be selected according to the diameter and pressure level of the valve. Generally, the diameter is between 5 and 20 mm. At the same time, considering the corrosion resistance and sealing performance of zirconia balls, select models with high purity and stable crystal phase.

According to equipment requirements:

Sand mill: Generally, zirconia balls with a particle size of 0.4-3mm are selected. According to the size and processing capacity of the ball mill, the diameter of the balls can be adjusted appropriately. For example, small ball mills can use balls with a diameter of 0.4-1.0mm, while large ball mills can choose balls with a diameter of 1.0-3.0mm. In addition, it is also necessary to consider the rotational speed of the ball mill and the filling rate of the grinding medium, and select zirconia ball models with appropriate hardness and density to ensure grinding efficiency and normal operation of the equipment.

Ball mill: The ball mill has relatively large requirements for the particle size of zirconia balls, usually between 5-50mm. For large-diameter ball mills, zirconia balls with a diameter of 20-50mm can be selected; while for small ball mills, balls with a diameter of 5-20mm can be used. When selecting the model, according to the lining material of the ball mill and the properties of the grinding material, select zirconia balls with good wear resistance and impact resistance.

According to material characteristics:

Material particle size: If the initial particle size of the material is large and a large grinding force and impact force are needed for crushing and grinding, zirconia balls with a larger particle size can be selected, such as 3-10mm; if the particle size of the material is already small and fine grinding and dispersion are required, then zirconia balls with a smaller particle size should be selected, such as 0.5-3mm.

Material hardness: For materials with high hardness, such as ceramic powder, ore, etc., zirconia balls with higher hardness need to be selected to ensure effective grinding and crushing of the material. For materials with lower hardness, such as some organic pigments, food powders, etc., zirconia ball models with slightly lower hardness but better toughness can be selected to avoid pollution to the material caused by the breakage and wear of the balls.
